ABOUT
With a dilapidated educational system in a world that will soon move toward human capital as the basis of the global economy, Liberia faces an uncertain future unless tougher reforms are created and funding is increased in the education sector to empower young people fill its human resource needs.
The Problem
Liberia’s educational system has been severely damaged by fourteen years of civil war. Despite significant efforts after the war to mend the system, for the most part, the system still displays symptoms synonymous to the war era. Among the many indicators of a failed system are bribery, massive failures on the national exam and university entrance examinations and lack of opportunities, setting the stage for a void in human resource capacity.
The Solution
Student Reform Initiative aims to tackle this education defect starting with secondary schools. The goal is to spur reform in the secondary education sector of Liberia by empowering students through school clubs, entrepreneurship workshops, and other student-focused programs that will develop their capacities to create change in their schools and local communities. Through entrepreneurship training workshops we aim to inspire and empower students to utilize their skills and potential to solve some of the meager problems that affect them in their schools and local communities. We also plan to provide a range of educational opportunities that will motivate high students across the country to pursue academic excellence.
